MATCH REPORT
And the prize for the loudest supporters goes to…
The second SAL match was a scorcher in more ways than one. In spite of the hot weather, some incredible sprints led to wins from Lucy Hoad, Sophia Henlon , Daniel Ogun, Kaylen Francis, and easy first places for both 4x100m teams, with an exceptional second leg run by Dylan Baldock. Team spirit was so high by the end of the day that many of the 100m athletes offered themselves up to make up the 4x400m relay to score extra points for the team.
On the field, Daniel Ogun stormed to victory in the long jump, Jake Field high jumped to score valuable points, while Nile Cook and Chris Smale took care of seven of the eight men’s throws events. In the women’s javelin, Emma Lawrence and Rianna Saunders won both the A and B events, while Olivia Chessell won the long jump with ease.
What made Sutton stand out at both events, however, was the relentless support from the team: there was shouting, cheering… even a Mexican wave was seen trackside, leaving the other teams’ supporters looking on with envy!
A special mention goes to Sylvia Ofei-Kwatia, who completed her first ever 1500m steeplechase, inspiring the younger athletes to try something new. Congratulations also to Lucy Hoad, who was awarded athlete of the match. Thanks to all, especially the coaches and officials, without whom none of this would be possible.
Ruth Holder
We had a small but quality team at this match and our now 10th in the league. We can only move up the league with more attending and competing across all disciplines. If you have yet to compete this season please ensure you attend the next fixture.

MATCH REPORT
Thank you to all who competed at Sutton. Please find results and note from Ruth your Team Manager.
"Saturday, 15th April saw this season’s first SAL meeting for the seniors at Sutton, with a tremendous turnout, resulting in an impressive fifth place in their division.
Debut SAL performances from U17 girls Chyna Russell (100m and 200m) and Olivia Chessil (long jump) led to athlete of the match awards. Awards also went to Jake Field for high jump, Dylan Baldock for 100m and 200m and Jade Ive in the pole vault competition. Notably, Sutton and District achieved 7 of the 12 athlete of the match awards. A special congratulations goes to the u17 boys’ 100m sprint team; a time of 44.37 which will rank them 2nd in the Country.
There are too many personal bests to list them all individually, but well done to all those who participated and a special thank you to those who ‘filled in’ with events that put them out of their comfort zone.
Noteworthy performances came from William Ofei-Kwatia, who stepped in to complete in 3 throws events and Tom Keenan, who put himself forward to fill in for some challenging events, including the steeplechase and hurdles.
Thank you to the coaches, Mandy, John and Sylvia for their support on the day, as well as those who officiated.
Match 2 takes place on Sunday, 21st May at Horsham. We look forward to more impressive performances. Let Ruth Holder know of availability asap (and if you need any support with transport), and remember: willingness to try something new either on the field or track is always appreciated and wins us valuable points!
NB: If anyone is able to support with management of the team, please let Ruth know.
