Jack Petchey Winners - 2015
November 2015 - Rianna Saunders
October 2015- Rezan Lawal
April 2015 - Jake Field
Reason for award: At last! In my opinion this award is long and recognition is long overdue (Coach Mark Briggs). Jake received his nomination from athletes in all parts of the club and not just his training group. Jake trains 4/5 times per week and has worked hard to achieve one of his goals ( Welsh U20 H/J Champion) and has now gone onto achieving National standard and making English Schools next month. He serves the club well in competition and also commands the respect of each member of his training squad. Making all feel welcome, always giving advice, showing a great attitude and leading the way in training. He is very supportive of his squad both his sprint 'He lent me his spikes when I need to borrow some for a competition' and high jump squads. Jake chose to use his funds towards the paint-balling trip with Jessie. Like Jessie he wanted as many members of the club involved.
March 2015 - Jessie Walters
Reason for award: Triumphant over adversity is the way we shall describe Jessie's nomination from the group. Jessie has had many a setback recently with a number of injuries one kept her out for 6 months but she never let this get in her way, of her desire to return to competition. She is always encouraging of others and keeps spirits high when things not going well for other athletes too. Jessie puts others first and her courage and inspiration are all part of her many attributes that led to her fellow athletes nominating her for this award. She chose to share her grant money with another winner Jake Field so they can take as many from both her training group and other groups on a paintballing trip.
February 2015 - Georgia Bell
Reason for award: Georgia is always helpful and supportive of all members of her training group, particularly the younger ones, at training and also at any league fixtures. She always takes time to make sure they are ok and helps with their warming up and talking about race/ course for x country. She takes them under her wing when they arrive into the group. This led to her nomination from her group. 'Supportive, Kind and a role model'. Georgia and her group have used the money for a game of rounders followed by pizza for all the members of her training group.
January 2015 - Tom Keenan
Reason for award: Tom was nominated by his training group and he has been with Sutton & District for several years now and shows an exemplary attitude both to his fellow athletes and his coaches. Kind and helpful, he always offers encouragement to his fellow athletes. He regularly competes for the club in cross-country and track fixtures and, although not usually amongst the front-runners in races, he never quits and supports all the other club members too. Tom will make a great Coach one day. Tom has decided to spend his grant money on attending an athletics coaching assistant course. This is his first step to coaching. This opportunity will be great for Tom who will go onto to become a key role model within the Club.
