Coaches, officials, and team managers are a vital part of any athletics club because they are the foundation that allows athletes to train, compete, and grow. Coaches dedicate their time and knowledge to developing skills, building confidence, and supporting athletes both on and off the track. Officials ensure that competitions are fair, safe, and run smoothly, upholding the integrity of the sport. Team managers work tirelessly behind the scenes, coordinating events, communication, and logistics so that athletes can focus on performing at their best.
Importantly, all of these roles are carried out by volunteers who generously give their time and energy for the benefit of the club and its athletes. Their commitment, passion, and selflessness create a positive environment where young people can thrive, build friendships, and develop a lifelong love of athletics. Without these volunteers, the club simply could not function.
To have a valid coaching licence all coaches and assistants need to have their DBS check carried out every three years. Coaches also have to complete an England Athletics Safeguarding Course to gain renewal of their licence.
Volunteers who support the coaches are also requested to fill out an volunteer form and submit this to the clubs Welfare Officers or Club Secretary.
As an organisation using the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checking service to help assess the suitability of applicants for positions of trust, Sutton and District Athletic Club (SADAC) complies fully with the code of practice regarding the correct handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of certificates and certificate information.

Officials play an important role in the development of athletes, coaches and the sport itself. A friendly meet and greet between officials, coaches and athletes at an event can be the catalyst for inspiring the next generation of individuals to progress the sport in all its forms.

An athletics team manager plays a key role in ensuring that athletes and coaches can focus on performance by taking care of the organisation behind the scenes. Their duties typically include coordinating team entries for competitions, managing communication with athletes and families and confirming event detailsOn competition days, they often handle check-ins, distribute bib numbers, track event schedules, and act as the main point of contact between officials, coaches, and athletes.
Beyond administration, a team manager also helps create a supportive and positive team environment. They assist with travel arrangements when required, relay important updates, and help resolve any logistical issues that arise
